Is it possible to obtain a castle that is abandoned? Are these castles still owned by someone? How does one go about find this information??

wurdsmiff Simply put, yes, yes, and get out there and look!
All land, certainly in Britain, is owned by someone, and ruined castles are usually owned by the landowner on whose land it stands, or by the government. Occasionally ruined castles and/or the land they occupy will come up for sale, though most of the contacts I've had with people wishing to buy and restore castles have indicated that going out and looking for suitable sites, then approaching the landowner and negotiating is the only realistic way to get what you are looking for without a very lengthy wait. In addition to purchase costs, you will have to take into account restoration and legal costs, ie what is it going to cost you afterwards to achieve your goal. Generally a very expensive business.
I am probably not the best person to advise, though expect that you will receive other replies from members with practical experience in these matters.

duncan Scotland and Ireland are the best places to find a castle to buy, but look to haggle over the cost, and it will take awhile to finish the sell. Sometimes money for certain parts of the work can be obtained from the goverment. Many ruins can be bought and lived in as the renovation is going on, if your life and buisness will allow it. My wifes and mine would not, much to our disapointment, that's why building one became much more practical. Please do go look, finding one to fit your dreams is not that hard nor expensive.
